Taking Customers Seriously
Conoship International BV, of Groningen, Netherlands, and Algoship Brokers Ltd together with Smart Engineering and Design Solutions Ltd (SEDS), both of Nassau, Bahamas, have agreed a strategic move to promote and support shipbuilding in India and elsewhere through an exclusive partnership arrangement.

Leo van Ingen, Managing Director, Conoship International BV, (left) and Antony Prince, President, Algoship Brokers Ltd and SEDS, join forces to supply the world with quality vessels from India. Both stated, during their recent meeting in Kochi, India, that the collaboration is a quantum leap forward for cost and time-optimised shipbuilding.

Algoship Brokers Ltd and SEDS are controlled by Antony Prince, one of the undisputed leaders internationally in the design and turnkey delivery of bulk carriers, with vast experience in brokerage, yard support, construction supervision and related activities. His already well-established Algoship Designers Ltd has series-built some 45 vessels and has over 71 on order for a number of well-known shipowners. Designs include the "Fantasy" (1996), "Valiant" (2003) and "Trader" (2003), all of which have been selected as "Significant Ships of the Year" by the Royal Institute of Naval Architects, London.

Conoship International BV is a leader in the design of short-sea vessels. Its portfolio covers a range from 600 dwt to 15,000 dwt and the current client order book shows almost 50 vessels under construction in India, The Netherlands, Vietnam, China and elsewhere. Conoship has, for almost sixty years, been among the top suppliers of newbuilding tonnage to the short-sea shipping community in Europe with more than 1,000 vessels constructed to various standard designs.

Leo van Ingen, Managing Director of Conoship International BV, says "The Conoship International story is one of designs exceeding customer expectations. We are experienced in finding flexible yards for our customers in shipbuilding nations. The collaboration with Algoship and SEDS is a quantum step forward for our clients. Importantly for our customer base, which expects high quality vessels, we are now able to offer complete support in India and other parts of the world."

Antony Prince, President of Algoship and SEDS, adds "SEDS, our recently opened new design facility in Kochi, India, has a well-qualified team of almost 100. In addition, we have constructed ships of our highly efficient "Trader" design in India. Six of these vessels have been constructed at Cochin Shipyard for a well-known European owner and were delivered up to four months earlier than the contracted delivery date. A further four were ordered at Hindustan Shipyard, three of which are completed and delivered to Indian buyers. Algoship also has six of its Inventor 20,000 dwt bulk carrier design under construction at Bharati Shipyard's Dhabol Shipyard. Together with Conoship we are going to extend the story of our success in India for national and international quality owners."

Having joined forces, Conoship and Algoship, along with SEDS, will act as partners in the design, marketing and construction of any size of multipurpose vessel, bulk carrier, chemical tanker, dredger or engineering vessel.

Discussions with a number of shipyards regarding orders for Dutch and German owners are already under way.
Given Germanischer Lloyd's (GL) track record as one of the world's leading classification society for short-sea shipping and specialised vessels, the partners have agreed to utilize the services of the German organisation in their collaborative endeavours.
Germanischer Lloyd conducts the safety surveys on board of over 6,700 ships. It is particularly known for its reputation in the containership segment and, in addition, classes more than 2,200 vessels with Ice Class notation. Part of the society's large MPV fleet is especially designed and constructed for world-wide short-sea shipping operators.
