The two shipyards of the shipbuilding division are located in the state of Goa at the west coast of India, 600 kilometres south of Mumbai.
The shipyards were set up to build transportation vessels for the processed ore from the riverside loading points near the mines to the Mormugao Harbour. The Loutulim shipyard has since then gained experience and expertise to build a gamut of maritime vessels, ranging from ore-carrying barges, dredgers, fishing trawlers, offshore drilling rigs and coastal vessels.
The yard has three building berths besides each other. The middle berth will be used as slipway for a longitudinal launching of the vessels to be controlled by a winch. The slipway is designed for ships of a length of up to 100 meter and a beam of 20 meter.
The Loutulim yard has a steel production capacity of 6000 ton per year and can be assisted by the Rassaim yard (of the same group) with a capacity of 3000 ton. The yard has an ISO 9002 certification from IRQS (Indian Register Quality System).
The own labour of the yards exists of about 40people. Other workers (approx 800) are working on the yards via subcontractors and are working in 3 shifts.
The yard is equipped with the following main equipment:
