In 1980 two famous independent shipbuilding and ship repair yards joined forces and names: ROYAL NIESTERN SANDER. The combination of various assets "skilled labour, alert management, excellent engineering and design capacity" ensured the new company a solid foothold for future operations in an ever changing and demanding shipbuilding market.
Ship newbuildingRoyal Niestern Sander's shipbuilding facilities include an inshore newbuilding yard, fully equipped for the construction of ships up to 140m length and a maximum width of 16 m. Furthermore, an offshore newbuilding site located in the harbour of Delfzijl, with free access to the North Sea. This newbuilding site is ideally suited for the assembly of seagoing vessels up to 160 m length and a maximum width of 23 m. Royal Niestern Sander has established an exceptional high standard in design and construction of a variety of seagoing vessels and inland crafts such as dry cargo vessels, product and chemical tankers, containerfeeders, ferries and offshore vessels. As an innovative trendsetter, the yard gained itself fame as creative designer and experienced builder of advanced and complex vessels. Ordered by the towage and offshore industry some of the world's most powerful vessels have been constructed. Ship repairRoyal Niestern Sander's repair facilities include an inland slipway with a length of 147 m and a lifting capacity of 1650 ton per ship and also numerous repair berths and abundant cranage. Further, an offshore repair yard with free access to the North Sea and equipped with two floating docks. Dock 1 features a length of 125 m, a width of 18.50 m and has a lifting capacity for ships up to 10000 dwt. Dock 2 has a length of 185 m, a width of 25.00 m and is suitable for the accommodation of ships up to 20000 dwt. The repair yard of Royal Niestern Sander is capable to render all services required by a wide range of shipowners and the yard's working force has gathered vast experience in all disciplines of the complicated business. The Royal Niestern Sander management, supported by an excellent labour quality, rectifies all the sudden problems of complicated projects in the field of hull damage, propulsion breakdowns, loading gear surveys, major renewals and retrofits. AnniversaryIn May 2001, the shipyard celebrated its 100th anniversary. A century full of historical milestones. For instance, Niestern was the first to design and build world's first self-righting lifeboat. The yard also invented and patented the lowered double bottom construction for coastal vessels. The 100th anniversary resulted in the award of the tide "Royal" (Koninklijke) to the name of the shipyard. Contact
