ship.energy summit 2021
The decarbonisation of shipping is underway. With the IMO’s 2030 and 2050 targets firmly in sight and countries stepping up to put domestic clean energy transition strategies in place – many of which will impact on shipping – the momentum for maritime’s energy change is building. However, while the scale of the energy transition is beginning to be realised, how shipping and its related sectors can achieve this is still far from clear cut. While some ‘solutions’ may be ready for full commercialisation, others remain in relatively early-stage development or their viability is unproven.
What is clear, is that there are still many more questions than answers about getting to zero. In this, the first in ship.energy’s series of global summits in 2021, industry leaders, practitioners, analysts and commentators will define and debate the critical questions on shipping’s decarbonisation across two days of high level panel discussions.
Conoship International participated in the following panel discussion:
SESSION 4

The Dutch maritime sector wants to reduce harmful emissions from shipping. This has led to good initiatives and innovations, but more is needed, especially more speed. Through the efforts of companies, knowledge institutes and governments to combine sustainability, we can accelerate the transition to clean shipping.
That is why the Dutch maritime cluster, all maritime sectors and knowledge institutions, together with governments, are working on an ambitious transition plan. The Master Plan for an emission-free maritime sector. The aim is to have 30 emission-free ships for governmental and commercial purposes in service by 2030, as well as 5 retrofits. This should act as a catalyst for a much broader market introduction of sustainable technology in shipping. This plan has been discusses in this online innovation event of the TKI Maritime. The entire program can be found here.
In two breakout sessions current and planned initiatives to apply new technology were pitched. In the session on Zero Emissions, we pitched about Econowind and testing on Pelagia.
