Design Philosophy
The conversion of the general cargo vessels ‘Arctica 1’ and ‘Arctica 2′ for polar operations involved the design and installation of a new Arctic bow, tailored to withstand extreme conditions. The engineering process included the removal of the existing bow and the seamless integration of the new one, constructed from high-quality steel. This new bow ensures the vessels’ operability at temperatures as low as -40°C, demonstrating a commitment to precision and excellence.
Additionally, the vessels were equipped with specialized deck cranes designed to function in extreme cold, requiring significant mechanical and hydraulic modifications. These enhancements, along with tank heating to prevent ballast water from freezing, ensure that ‘Arctica 1’ and ‘Arctica 2’ are fully equipped to handle the demanding conditions of polar waters. Both ships have successfully undergone their conversion and are now deployed in northern waters.
