Conoship Nominated for the Maritime Innovation Award 2025
CIP series recognised for leading the next-gen sustainable coastal trade
Conoship is excited to announce we have been nominated for the upcoming Maritime Innovation Award at the Maritime Award Gala to be held on the 3rd of November in Ahoy, Rotterdam. After our successes at the Dutch Maritime Awards Gala in 2007 (Deo Volente), 2015 (Kroonborg), and 2019 (Econowind unit), Conoship has once again been nominated for an award.
Upcoming November we will find out if our CIP series is going to win the prestigious Maritime Innovation Award. The CIP series is a future-ready standardised coaster design with modular diesel-electric propulsion. They are ready to replace the aging coaster fleet in a sustainable manner, while retaining their value thanks to their modular design.
The event is organised by a foundation under the same name and sponsored by various prominent Dutch maritime institutions, including Conoship.
About the maritime innovation award Award
The Innovation Award will be awarded to ‘the most appealing maritime innovation of the past year’. This could include a product innovation, service innovation, or business process innovation. Nominees for the award are already publicly available and proven in the market.
Conoship is not unfamiliar with winning the Maritime Innovation Award, as we have done so with the Econowind unit back in 2019. A revolutionary wind assisted propulsion system that is easily mounted on newbuilt and existing vessels.
CIP Series Secures a Nomination
A vessel built today will have to continue operating until at least 2050. This means it will have to comply with the net-zero goals set by the IMO. The CIP series is a future-proof, standardised coaster design with modular diesel-electric propulsion. By using an advanced diesel-electric D&A E-prop® system, the ship can quickly respond to varying torque in sea-going conditions, which significantly optimizes performance in rough seas and considerably reduces fuel consumption.
It is the perfect sustainable solution to the aging European short-sea fleet. Technological innovations in the maritime industry are developing rapidly, making it increasingly hard for shipowners to continuously adapt and modernise. Thanks to the modular design of the CIP series, vessels can seamlessly transition to alternative fuels in the future once deemed viable.
The CIP series is not the only innovative ship design on the market, however the series differentiates itself with:
- Future-readiness, by immediately offering diesel-electric propulsion which is already among the most efficient in its class and allowing for seamless transition to alternative fuels
- The opportunity to be constructed at any desired shipyard
- An increased life expectancy with a minimum of 30 years
- Taking the next step to a circular maritime industry, by making it increasingly to retrofit
- A lower energy consumption throughout the vessels entire life cycle , thanks to D&A their E-prop system
”We chose the Conoship CIP3600 design for our new build vessels as wel feel this is the next generation low air-draft coasters. The design combines the knowledge from the past regarding the niche market of sea-river going coasters, with a future-proof vision regarding emissions. The vessel takes a big step in emission reduction, and its modular design opens possibilities towards zero emissions in the future. The specific and academic ship-designing knowledge available at Conoship, combines with input by ‘end users’ like us, has led to a terrific product”
Leading up to the nomination
The development of the CIP Series has been an ongoing process for over 8 years. On January 4, 2022, the first press release was issued about the series. The practical implementation received a concrete boost when the first ship (the keel laid) was started in construction in May 2023 and was successfully delivered on June 4, 2024. Meanwhile, more than 30 ships of the CIP series are under construction worldwide, and 10 are currently operational in international waters.
Conoship is incredibly grateful for being nominated for this prestigious award and a special thank you to the jury for taking our nomination into consideration. We are eager to hearing who won the award during the gala.
