The Design Process
How We Turn Ideas Into Enduring Designs
Innovation at Conoship follows a structured path. From early feasibility to verified performance, every step combines research, experience, and technology to deliver designs that stand the test of time.
Concept Design & Feasibility Studies
Concept design is the phase in which functional requirements, regulations, and operational goals are translated into a coherent vessel concept. It defines principal dimensions, layout, capacities, propulsion approach, and key performance estimates. The outcome demonstrates feasibility and forms a solid basis for comparison, budgeting, and further development.
Basic Design & Plan Approval
Basic design and plan approval form the phase in which the selected concept is developed into a technically defined and class compliant design. Main structures, systems, machinery, and key calculations are established and documented. The design is submitted to class and authorities for formal review, confirming compliance and enabling progression to detailed engineering and construction.
Detailed Production Design & Piping
Detailed production design and piping form the phase in which the approved basic design is translated into fully engineered production information. All structures, systems, outfitting, and piping are developed to production level, including workshop drawings, routing, supports, and PI. The output enables efficient procurement, construction, and commissioning at the shipyard.
Shipyard Support
We can support shipyards in delivering high quality ships using our experience with various experts in the field of shipbuilding. Using our experts, we determine risks, quality improvements, and monitor overall progress of the vessel at the shipyard.
Our Services
Independent Maritime Expertise
Tailored services to support shipowners, yards, and partners across every stage of development, from research insights to proven vessel concepts.
Design & Engineering
With our multi-disciplinary team, we can provide assistance from the early steps of a project, through feasibility studies, concept design, and a full engineering and production package. This includes up to financing, yard selection and production support.
Consultancy
Independent technical and strategic consultancy. We assist and conduct feasibility studies, retrofit advice, and alternative fuel and wind-assisted-propulsion integration. We help owners and operators make informed, future-proof decisions for their fleet or newbuild strategy.
Research
We translate industry challenges into practical, data-driven insights. Through hydrodynamic research, fuel transition studies, and performance analysis, our R&D work helps shape the next generation of sustainable shipping.
Standardised Designs
Our CIP series offers standardized vessel designs with proven efficiency and optimized construction time. These adaptable platforms reduce risk and cost while supporting future-fuel flexibility.
