Estonia’s First Biomethane & Battery Work Boat Launches

Conoship’s involvement in projects is deliberately diverse. We collaborate with companies worldwide on a wide range of vessels, one example being workboats. Our projects have a strong focus on sustainability, and we take pride in contributing practical expertise that supports greener shipping in different corners of the world.

Just in time for the start of autumn, the hull of Estonia’s first biomethane- and battery-powered multipurpose workboat was successfully launched by Baltic Workboats. This is a fine example of the work that we are fortunate to be a part of, celebrating Estonia’s progress toward a more sustainable future.

This vessel will welcome many capabilities to Estonia’s maritime sector. As a multipurpose workboat, it is intended for buoy-laying, research activities, transport to small Estonian islands, oil-spill response and recovery, emergency rescue, towing, and other near-shore operations.

Conoship International’s Input

Conoship contributed to the vessel at multiple stages, including finalizing the concept design, preparing the basic design for class approval, carrying out detailed engineering for construction and systems, producing the outfitting detailed design, and facilitating the HAZID workshop to assess risks associated with the CNG system.

Some of the vessel’s standout features include:

  • 38 m length
  • 10 m width
  • 12 knots maximum speed
  • Powered entirely by biomethane and electricity
  • Battery-powered sailing: up to 2 hours at 5 knots

The design and construction of this multifunctional workstation boat will be financed by the European union from the resources of NextGeneration EU. We look forward to her scheduled deliery in Spring of 2026!
