Wilson ASA launches their first vessel of the CIP-Series
Wilson Eco I marks the the start of a new era in sustainable short sea shipping
On April 23rd Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL) launched the first Wilson ECO vessel. Following the first launch, from now till 2028 there will be another five CIP3800 vessels and eight CIP6300 vessels launched, thus completing the ECO series.
A commitment to sustainability and efficiency
True to its name, the Wilson ECO series places a strong emphasis on environmental performance and energy efficiency. The vessels are equipped with a diesel-electric propulsion systems, which is enhanced by D&A Electric’s e-prop system and an optimized hull for smooth and efficient sailing.
Additionally, the Wilson ECO I and upcoming vessels in the series are ready to be equipped with wind assisted propulsion, once installed the energy consumption of the vessel will be further reduced.
Notably, the CIP3800 vessels for the Wilson ECO series already score 30% below IMO’s required energy efficiency design index (EEDI) for 2025.
Designed for the future: the CIP-Series
The CIP-Series vessels are engineered with a revolutionary modular design concept, allowing for easier upgrades and adaptations. This approach extends vessel lifespans and enables operators to respond quickly to a fast-changing regulatory and technological landscape. For example, future modular upgrades could include innovations in energy systems/fuels, cargo configurations, or alternative power generation. This way we ensure our CIP vessels remain at the forefront of short sea shipping for decades to come.
We look forward to continuing to lead the way towards a greener and smarter maritime industry and cannot wait for the upcoming launches in the Wilson ECO series.
