Vega Reederei’s CIP3800 Series: A Growing Fleet

It has only been exactly one year since the first vessel in Vega Reederei’s CIP3800 series was delivered, and already seven of them are active and sailing, signaling just how quickly this series has taken shape.

Vega Reederei’s order of 10 CIP3800 Eco-coasters marked a strong return to the European short sea market. The first vessel, ECHO Petra, arrived in the summer of 2025, and has recently been joined by her sisters: ECHO Elisa, Vega Clara, Vega Luise, Vega Christina, Vega Philippa, and HAV ECHO Trader 1. ECHO Elisa and ECHO Petra are currently chartered by Echoship, while HAV ECHO Trader 1, is chartered by HAV Shipping.

Proven in Practice

The series is based on Conoship’s CIP3800 standard general cargo design, each vessel representing durable and highly efficient configuration. Vega Reederei was particularly interested in the series’ modularity as new energy sources continue to mature. The shipping company shared how pleased they are with the vessels’ performance in practice:

"The CIP-series has proven to be a highly reliable addition to our fleet. In daily operations, the vessels demonstrate excellent seakeeping and impressive efficiency, meeting our high standards for modern short-sea shipping. For Vega, the modularity of the Conoship design remains a key advantage, ensuring our fleet stays competitive and ready to adapt as new energy sources mature."

Features of the CIP3800 design include:

  • Length: 89.43 m
  • Deadweight: 3,800 t
  • Draught maximum: 5.25 m
  • Breadth: 13.20 m
  • Hold volume: 195,290 cu.ft
  • Diesel generator: 3 x 350 eKW
  • Consumption at 10 knots (trial):
    • 3.1 t/day at design draught of 4.3 m
    • 3.8 t/day at maximum draught of 5.25 m

Built For the Future

The CIP series is built on a future proof platform that allows for easy changes to future fuels and regulatory shifts due to an electric propulsion system where the energy creation can easily be swapped from diesel to other energy sources such as Hydrogen fuel cells, methanol engines, or batteries.

As we experience the rapid growth of this series, we look forward to having the completed series actively sailing the waters of tomorrow!
