Design philosophy of the Marietjes Multipurpose Vessels

In 2007, the combination Danser van Gent & Wagenborg Shipping B.V. ordered a series of four general cargo vessels at the Dutch yard Barkmeijer Shipyards based in Stroobos.

The design, engineering and styling was developed in combination with the owners. The shape of the hull is optimized for free sailing conditions. Although the installed power is relatively small for the type of vessel, by implementing a nozzle around the main propeller, sufficient propulsion power is obtained for sailing in ice according to the Finish – Swedish ice class 1A rules. In the meantime, three vessels were handed over to their owners. The last vessel of this series was delivered in 2013.
