Design philosophy of the CIP3800 Fully Electric
The CIP3800 Fully Electric General Cargo Vessel design brings 100% battery-electric propulsion to Conoship’s widely built 3,800 TDW coastal general cargo vessel platform. Purpose-engineered for fixed short-sea routes, green shipping corridors, and emission-restricted coastal zones, this modular design allows shipowners to eliminate Scope 1 carbon emissions without sacrificing the reliability of an optimized, battle-tested hull.
By replacing conventional diesel generators with an integrated 40 MWh energy storage system, the CIP3800 Electric offers an operational range of up to 650 nautical miles. It delivers the exact same box-shaped cargo hold efficiency, low hull resistance, and yard-independent buildability that define our CIP-Series.
Key design highlights
1. Split-Room Battery Architecture for Optimal Trim
To preserve vessel stability and avoid the need for dead-weight water ballast, the 40 MWh battery capacity is intelligently divided between dedicated forward and aft battery compartments. This balanced weight distribution maintains ideal sea-keeping trim under all load conditions while leaving the central cargo hold completely uncompromised.
2. Maximized Usable Payload
While battery systems increase overall light ship weight, electric operation completely removes the need for heavy fuel oil, marine gas oil, lubricating oils, and sludge storage. This offset significantly bridges the gap between gross deadweight and net cargo capacity, preserving maximum earning potential for high-density and volume cargoes alike.
3. Route-Tailored & Chemistry-Agnostic Integration
Every coastal trade loop is unique. The CIP3800 Electric energy storage system features a modular architecture designed to accommodate different battery chemistries (such as high-density NMC or long-lifecycle LFP) depending on your target route, lifetime cycle demands, and shore charging infrastructure.
