Design philosophy of the Floating Dry Dock
Traditional ship dismantling on tidal beaches represents an open-loop failure mode in the maritime industry, shifting severe environmental contamination and safety liabilities onto vulnerable coastal regions. The core design philosophy of this 250-meter Floating Dry Dock is to replace unregulated shore-based disposal with a controlled, closed-loop industrial environment.
To make sustainable ship recycling commercially and operationally viable, the asset was designed as versatile maritime infrastructure engineered for the entire lifecycle of a vessel:
- Shipbuilding & Modular Assembly: Assembly, integration, and launching of newbuild vessels and large hull blocks directly from the pontoon.
- Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO): Executing complex hull modifications, classification surveys, decarbonization retrofits, and life-extension programs.
- Compliant Green Ship Recycling (GSR): Controlled, progressive deconstruction of end-of-life vessels in full alignment with international safety and environmental regulations.
